Year 7-9 Programs

Thinking Traps

Our minds deliver us unhelpful thoughts all day.

Some of these thoughts lead to anxiety, school refusal, self-doubt or disengagement. It is crucial for students to be able to identify and manage these thoughts.

This workshop draws on CBT to show students how to challenge and reframe their unhelpful thoughts.

Key Skills:

  • Cognitive strategies for identifying anxious thoughts

  • Evaluate certain thoughts

  • Reframe unhelpful thoughts

Emotion Regulation

Sometimes our emotions get the better of us.

This can lead to fights, arguments and friendship breakdowns. Understanding how to let out our emotions is an important step.

This workshop draws on DBT to show students how to calm themselves down before things spill over.

Key Skills:

  • Tools to de-escalate conflict

  • Effective strategies to manage uncomfortable emotions

  • Progressive muscle relaxation

Mental Movies

Our minds have a catalogue of movies about our most uncomfortable experiences and unhelpful stories.

These movies create anxiety and worry, and stop us from living in the present moment.

This workshop teaches ACT strategies to help students disconnect from these movies so they don’t have as big an impact.

Key Skills:

  • Creating distance from our unhelpful stories

  • Avoiding unhelpful patterns of thinking and worry

  • Developing mature language to communicate your experience
